Five Lessons & Revelations from the Burning Bush
First G-dly vision of Moses at SNEH (Burning Bush). SNEH is mentioned 5 times.
Parallels 5 times OHR (light) is mentioned on the first day of Genesis.
G-dly revelation is compared to light (enlightenment).
Especially, as G-d hid the light for the tzaddikim in every generation.
5 primary emotions: Chessed, Gevurah, Tiferes, Netzach, Hod.
Midrash: Every tree/plant has a juncture with leaves coming from it. (Hadas/myrtle- 3 leaves)
Thornbush (sneh) has 5 leaves.
Lesson: In order for you to be the redeemer, you need the 5 qualities/merits of 5 tzaddikim:
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron.
They correspond to the 5 emotions.
Physical example: 5 fingers coming from one hand.
Reference: The Hand of G-d that would take out the Jews from Egypt.
Specifically connected to 5 times and Moses. Torah Ohr=Torah is compared to light.
The 5 Books of Moses= 5 revelations/lessons in G-dliness.
1. Zohar: “There is no place devoid of Him.” G-d is Omnipresent.
Fire represents G-d, Bush the reality of the world.
Thornbush means in the lowest part of the world.
This reveals G-d’s chessed (loving-kindness) that extends to all.
This was revealed by Abraham.
2. Fire represents G-d descending into the condition of the enslaved Jew (thornbush).
He feels our pain. Bush is the Jew with thorns, scratched and bloody.
This is an extension of His Gevurah.
3. Only after Moses saw the 2 opposites (fire and bush) co-existing (a paradox), did he come closer.
Midrash: 5 steps. He saw the tiferes, the beauty of G-d’s world. The paradox of two opposites
(G-d and world) co-existing.
Fire and Bush are now co-equals. This is represented by Jacob whose family ultimately comes
Together (in contrat to Abraham and isaac’s families).
4. Victory/Eternity.
The fire is now not G-d, but the power of Egypt trying to consume the bush (soul of the Jew). Also the focus of the revelation has changed from the fire to the bush, and the fact that it is eternal.
This was the merit of Moses who saw that aspect of the Jew.
5. The ultimate revelation is that the Jew is not consumed, means he does not allow himself to be consumed by G-dliness (k’los hanefesh). He recognizes his requirement to be dedicated, devoted, and loyal and carry back (shuv) G-d’s message to the people. This is the hod of Aaron.
